I am the Swamp Woman

I was raised in southeast Georgia near the Golden Isles. The town near where I was raised had one red light and a string of motels that all went out of business when I95 was opened when I was a young thing. Let me say something right up front and get it out of the way. I may not have been my mother-in-law's first choice but I can say with assuraty that she loves me now as I love her. We have weathered many storms over the years and wittnessed many rainbows. I have come to appreciate her wisdom and dry humor as well as her good example.
My husband and I have five children. The two oldest brothers are natural siblings and were adopted by us in 1976. Chris was 4 and Ben was 3. In 1979 Josh, our first natural child was born, in 1980 Courtney arrived thirteen monts later and three years later in 1983 Laura came. We have truly been blessed. We believe that this family was put together by Heavenly Father as though all five brothers and sisters were our biological children. It was meant to be!
I was raised in very lean times. As a child I remember that sometimes there wasn't much to eat. This did something to me. I was willing to do whatever necessary to make sure that my children never felt deprived when it came to food. I think that is one reason that I was so interested in cooking and putting together recipes that would please their taste buds and still be within my budget. Don't get me wrong. Sometime I splurged and spent fooleshly. I bought filets of beef and crab legs, etc. because I wanted them to experience these things that were so out of reach to me as a child and young adult. My family has always been the most special guests in my home. I put tablecloths on the table, use cloth napkins, use my best dishes and flatware and expect the best manners in return. As I post my recipes on my blog I would like to share with you some of my experiences over the years with friends and family that has shaped my life into what it is today.
